The following is a preliminary summary about Elizabeth Anne Beresford, born during 1804, at the Glebe of Inniscarra, County Cork, Ireland. She was brought up and lived almost constantly there, till the year when her father removed to the living of Ferragh, County Leitrim.
Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of George de la Poer Beresford, and Susan Gorges, and a grand-daughter of Baron Decies, Lord Archbishop of Tuam. Her great grandfather was "the Most Rev. Hon William Beresford", (b 16 April 1743; d 6 Sept 1819). The source documents include much more extensive information into the formidable family lines
At age 25, Elizabeth married Myles John O'Reilly at the little Church of Ferragh on the 16th of February, 1829. After the marriage, they returned to the Heath and continued to reside there constantly till 1837
With husband Myles, Elizabeth had the following family:
The following is an extract from the source records, written by her son
"Although as a girl slight in figure, my mother at the time of her marriage (in her 26th year) had grown into one of the most beautiful women that can be imagined. Majestic in figure and face, perfect in form and possessed of a refined education and cultivated mind, she was well-calculated to command (as she everywhere did) the respect and admiration of the world and the love and esteem of all who knew her. As if from her girlhood she had a presentiment of her early death, her character and disposition were marked by great piety and reserve, no less than by a general seriousness of purpose"
"However, the health of my mother had visibly declined since the birth of her son, George and after the birth of her last child, Henry, the delicacy till then only partial rapidly developed and speedily turned into a rapid consumption. As a last chance, it was resolved to try the south of France and Henry (then an infant) being left in the care of his grandmother, the rest of the family left for Montauban in France where, after a long and fatiguing journey, all arrived on 8th Oct.r, 1837.
This change, however, proved on no avail against the insidious disease which had so completely assailed my dear mother, and though surrounded by all she loved and nursed with the tenderest solicitude by my poor father, she gradually wasted away and died in France on the 27th of March, 1838, at age 34"
Her daughter Bessie, who later married James Deakin, was only 3 years old, when her mother died
