Biography

Sigrid Margrethe Berg Nilsen was the daughter of the diver foreman Johan Berg and Karoline Johanne Knudsen. Sigrid was baptised at Domkirken, Bergen Dec 1, 1895^[1] She must have been adopted by Elias Mathias Nilsen and Dorothea Monsen, and given the name Nilsen.

There is no evidence that Sigrid married or had children.

Sigrid Margrete Nilsen died in Oslo on 16 Oct 1975.^[2]She is buried at Bekkelaget.^[3] The death notice states:^[4]

• Vår inderlig kjære «Nannan» Sigrid Berg Nielsen døde i dag, 16. oktober 1975. Familien Staib. Bisettes fra Nordstrand kirke, Oslo tirsdag 21. oktober kl. 10.00.

Research notes

No further records of a Sigrid Berg born Sep 22, 1895, can be found. But a Sigrid Nilsen born on that date appears in the census for Bergen in 1910. The parents Elias Mathias Nilsen and Dorothea Monsen baptised their children

There is no record of Sigrid born of these parents being baptised in Bergen. At the time of the census of 1900, Elias and Dorthea have only Elias K and Sigrid living at home in Martin Wahlsgade 11, indicating that they would have had opportunity to foster Sigrid. At the time of the census of 1910, Anna = Anne is also living with them at Lnt. Bjelkesgate 3.

The best proof of this can be found with the confirmation of Sigrid. She is registered as Sigrid Margrethe Nilsen, born 22/9-95, baptised 1/12-95, and the parents are Johan Berg and Karoline Knudsen. Her address is given as Geble Pedersensgate 3.
