Research Notes
Lillian is mentioned in her husband's obituary: Robert "Bob" Vincent Soranno's obituary was published in 2012:
Robert "Bob" Vincent Soranno Mar. 13, 1913 - May 21, 2012 Resident of Richmond Bob was born in Fresno, California, where his Italian parents and grandparents settled when they came to America through Canada. He was the son of an architect and the youngest of five children. He and his sisters and brother, Rose, Bill, Jen, and Edna were orphaned when their parents died in the flu epidemic of 1918. Bob joined the Marine Corps during his Senior year of high school. While in the service, he spent time in the tropics and four years in the Orient. He played the french horn and trumpet in the Marine Corps band and he participated in all sports. In the early 1940's, Bob returned to civilian life and worked two years with PG&E, as a meter mechanic. Bob came north, to Richmond, to find work in the shipyards, as a boiler maker. There he met his wife of 67 years, Lillian Stella Berg, who came from Bellingham, Wa., to work in the shipyards along with her older brother Alf. During World War II, he was drafted by the Army and, soon thereafter, was honorably discharged at age 28. After leaving military service, Bob worked for Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1977. While working, Bob earned an Associated Arts degree from Contra Costa Junior College. He played many sports and was very active at Grace Lutheran Church, St. James Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church. He was dedicated in his service to his country, family and church. In retirement, Bob especially enjoyed golf and SIRS. Lillian preceded Bob in death last March. They had two daughters, Mary Anne Soranno, who died of a Wilm's tumor at the age of seven and Robin Rawlings, resident of Richmond. They also have a granddaughter, Stacy Rawlings Tremewan, who resides in Gilbert, AZ with her husband, Paul. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 3pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 780 Ashbury Avenue 94530, El Cerrito, CA. The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be sent either to Christ Lutheran Church or ELCA World Hunger, PO Box 71764, Chicago, IL 60694-1764. [4]
