Wolfgang Bergbauer

Among the most beautiful homes in Jasper County is that owned by the above mentioned gentleman, situated about·five miles east of Newton. He was born Oct. 29,1850, in Bavaria, Germany, coming to this country with his parents, Geo. B. and Barbara Bergbauer, two years later. His mother died in 1861 and his father October 17th, 1894. Mr. Bergbauer has a fine farm of 365 acres in this county, keeping it well stocked and under a high state of cultivation. He also bought a large tract of Illinois Central Railroad land in Southern Illinois, and is selling it out at reasonable prices to parties who wish to obtain a home.

He was married April 17, 1876 to Miss Rosina Huber, daughter of Thomas and Barbara Huber, the latter having died in the year of 1861, and the fonner October 17th, 1894. (The wife of Thomas Huber was Magdalena who died in 1864). The subject of this sketch has six bright children living and one dead. Mr. Bergbauer has always been a staunch Democrat, and is a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church of Newton, Il.
