Our mom was born Jan. 14, 1923 in Corvallis, OR to Carson E. and Sadie (Foeckler) Berger. She was raised on her parents' farm and graduated from Corvallis High in 1941. She moved to Indiana and worked at Ball Band which led to her meeting our dad, Byron R. (Barney) Stayton. They married in Mishawaka, IN on Jan. 9, 1943. Dad was in the Army, which took them to France and Germany before they moved to Olympia in 1957. Mom was faithfully involved with Westminster Presbyterian Church her entire life, serving in many capacities. She enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, music, sewing, ceramics, and cooking; but she lived for her family which brought her the most joy. She is survived by children Virginia (Gin) Rust, Kent, Alex and Tami Stayton, Olympia, and Karen Gibeau, Olympia; and grandchildren Kellie (Joel) Schmidt, Lake Tapps, Keri (Emmett) O'Connell, Olympia, Matthew Gibeau, Olympia, and Chad Stayton, Rochester. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, her brother Paul Berger, and numerous other family members in IN/OR/CA whom she dearly loved. Mom was predeceased by our dad (1995), her sister BettyLou, and her first grandchild, Dennis Walker. Funeral services are Monday, June 27, 2011 at 3:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Olympia. Viewing will be June 26, 2011 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. On Jan. 9, 1943, in South Bend, he married Agnes Berger. She survives with two daughters, Virginia Rust of Kent, Wash., and Karen S. Gibeau of Olympia; a son, Alex of Olympia; four grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Lenora Edler of Indiana; and four brothers, Oliver of Graham, Wash., and Maurice, Cleo and Russell, all of Indiana. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and a member of the Masons. A grandson, Denny Walker, preceded in death. Memorial services were April 20 in Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Olympia. Woodlawn Funeral Home, Lacy, Wash., handled arrangements.
