CHARLES BERGERON is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 1 Right. Listed with him are his wife, Isabelle Arseneau, and their children, Simon, Jean Theodore, and Marguerite Bergeron. [1]
Jean Théodore Bergeron, son of Acadians Charles Bergeron and Elisabeth Arseneau, was born imprisoned at Halifax in 1762, not long before they were freed and immigrated to Spanish Louisiana at the end of the Seven Years War.
He was four years old on the 1766 census of St. James, Louisiana with his parents, shortly after their arrival;[2]
by the time he was seven and counted on the 1769 St. James census, he was an orphan, living with his uncle.[3]
He was counted with them again in 1777, a teenager.[4]
He married Theotiste Foret on 6 February 1786, recorded at St. James Catholic Church in St. James, Louisiana,[5]
and provided for his belle-mere in the marriage contract.[6]
Théodore died on 15 October 1832 in Lafourche, Louisiana, United States, at the age of 78 years.[8]
