Biography

Esther Carolyn Berglund was born in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States, 22 Nov 1898.[1] She was the first of the two children of John (Svensson) Berglund and Maria (Mary) Carolina Carlsdotter.[1] In 1900, she lived with her parents on Alleghany Street in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, where her father worked as a railroad laborer.[2] Her sole sibling, her brother, Emil, was born in 1902 in Jersey City.[3] She and Emil lived in 1910 with their parents in Jersey Shore, at 488 Elm Street, with their father working to repair railroad cars.[4] By 1920, Esther and Email, both adults, continued to live their parents, who owned their own home at 226 Oak Street in Jersey Shore, and Emil had joined their father working to repair railroad cars.[5] The family of four remained in same home through the deaths of Esther's parents in 1940, and Emil continued to work during that time as a foreman in the railroad repair shop.[6] For the period of 1930 to 1940, however, the records indicate that neither Esther nor Emil had ever married, or had children, even though, by 1940, they were already age 41 and 37, respectively.[6]

Esther's mother died in Jersey Shore, 30 Apr 1940, at age 78.[7] Her father died in Jersey Shore, too, just months later, 26 May 1940, age 73.[8] Her brother, Emil, died in Jersey Shore, apparently having never married or had children, 23 Jun 1957, about age 55.[3] Esther died in Jersey Shore, too, also apparently never having married or had children, 3 Jun 1978, age 79, and she's buried in Jersey Shore Cemetery.[1]
