Biography

Catherine Berkeley was born before 1604 in Askeaton, County Limerick. She was the eldest daughter of Sir Francis Berkeley and Jane Loftus.

Catherine married George Courtenay in Ireland.

George and Catherine had at least the following children:

  1. William Courtenay - He died circa 1651, without surviving male issue. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Courtenay, of Newcastle, co. Limerick before 1651. On his death, his baronetcy became extinct or dormant.
  2. Francis Courtenay - He may have had issue. 3rd Baronet (1617–1660).
  3. Morris Courtenay - died without issue.

Research Notes

As she was the eldest daughter, she must have been born before the second daughter in 1604.

The Westropp reference states that Catherine did not have children- this does not appear to be the case.
