Biography

Birth: Johann Philipp Bermes was likely born July 18, 1759 (baptized July 20) in Kirchheimbolanden, Donnersbergkreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the son of Johann Wilhelm and Maria Elisabetha Bermes.[1]

Married Anna Margaretha, last name unknown, probably in the late 1780s or early 1790s. They had four known children, but possibly more.

Nothing more is known of Johann Philipp.

Children

1. Johannes Bermes[2]: Johannes was born September 6 and baptized Septeber 8, 1793 in Kriegsfeld. Further information is not known.

2. Johann Philipp Bermes[3]: Philipp was born January 26 and baptized January 31, 1796 in Kriegsfeld. He married Maria Margaretha Damm there on July 5, 1821. They had six children in Germany: Michael Thomas (1820), Wilhelm (1823), Jacob A. (1826), Johannes (1831), Philipp (1832), and Christina (1833) before emigrating to America in 1834. He settled in Bartholomew County, Indiana where he had and Margaretha had twin sons, Frederick Elda and Charles L. (1838) before he died on March 18, 1857, age 61.

3. Anna Margaretha Bermes[4]: Margaretha was born June 24 and baptized June 27, 1798 in Kriegsfeld. She married Johann Peter Schneider there on March 12, 1821[5]. They had seven children: Michael (1824), Jacob (1828), John (1829), Phoebe (1832), Peter (1834), Friedrich (1839), anc Charles (1841) before emigrating to America in 1848. She settled in New York with her family, where she was alive as late as the 1870 census.

4. Johann Michael Bermes[6]: Michael was baptized May 27, 1804 in Kriegsfeld. Futher information not known.
