She was married shortly after her father's death in 1862 to Martin Doughty in the Troy, New York area. They had a daughter Clara and in time moved to New York City, down river from Troy, New York. On her death certificate her daughter clearly lists her parents as James Bernard and Elizabeth Bernard from France and Canada. It matches her brother James' death record, and her sister Josephine's. Josephine moved out west after the death of her husband and one of her daughters to live with a grandchild who was the only one who left in New York State.

This Matilda is James' sister. I have no idea whose records appear above. The records referring to Michigan do not mesh up with the known facts.
