Thomas was born in 1723. He was the son of Thomas Bernard. Thomas Bernard 9 March 1723 Earls Colne, son of Thomas and Ann. The PCC will of Rev Thomas Bernard of Little Bardfield, dated 3 Aug 1773, to wife Sarah the farm called Gibbons, nephew Thomas Bernard Sparrow of the rectory Wimbish, brother-in-law Mr John Goodeve and Elizabeth his wife, Rev Mr Anthony Stephenson to the rectory of Wimbish until Rev Thomas Bernard Sparrow is of age, to Thomas Barnard one of the sons of the Rev Mr Thomas Barnard of Withersfield, to nephew Thomas Barnard Harrison the rectory of Little Bardfield when 21, sister Bridget Bernard, late father Thomas Bernard, to Aunt Sarah Bernard, cousins William and Nathaniel Bernard, to cousins John and Elizabeth Bernard, sister Elizabet Harrison, nephew John Haynes Harrison. Thomas Bernard buried 5 Nov 1773 at Little Bardfield. Sarah Bernard, widow of the Rev. Thomas Bernard, created funds in her Will of 1774 and directed her executors to cut down all the timber in Halsted Grove. With the proceeds of this, they erected a school and five terraced Alms Houses.
