George Bernardeau was born January 24, 1691 in Saint-Mars-du-Desert near Nantes in the Pays-de-Loire area of France to Jacques Bernardeau and Renee Marzeliere and baptized the following day at Saint-Médards Church. His uncle, George Marzeliere was his godfather.1
On February 24, 1716 he married Marie Courgeon at Saint Pierre Church in Carquefou. By this time his father had passed away, but his mother was present at the wedding, as was his godfather & uncle George Marzeliere.2
The couple had at least thirteen children together over about 21 years while living in Carquefou... several with the same names:
Seven months after Marie Courgeon was buried in 1745, George remarried to a widow named Elizabeth Dupas. She had been married to a man named Rene Robert.3
Although only 73 years old when he died, George's age was estimated at 88 when he was buried at St. Pierre's Church in Carquefou on 17 August 1764. He had died the day before in "La Renaudiniere" according to the burial record. 4 There is a village by such name in Maine-et-Loire, Pays-de-Loire, France, but it seems more likely that he died in La Remaudiere which is in Loire-Atlantique like Saint-Mars-du-Desert.
