Biography

Gerard Joseph Bernier was born on 20 August 1923 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was the only child of Joseph Bernier and Marie Bourque.[1] Gerard's parent's marriage may have been unhappy. By the time of the 1930 Census his parents were living apart, his father listed as a boarder in Fall River.[2] The 1940 Census found Gerard living in a household with his mother and grandmother.[3]

When World War II broke out, Gerard joined the United States Navy. He served as a YNT2 (Yeoman (typist) Petty Officer 2nd Class) in both World War II and in the Korean Conflict.[4]

Gerard Joseph Bernier passed away on 29 Jun 2011 in New Bedford, Massachusetts.[5] He was laid to rest under a military tombstone at Pine Grove Cemetery located in New Bedford.[6]
