Biography

Hermann, the second and only son of August Mortiz Bernstein and Maria Lehmann farmers on Sandy Creek, died at 2 a.m. on Thursday, 3 November 1881 and was buried the next day in St Paul’s Cemetery, Serbin, Texas. Pastor Kilian gave a brief funeral devotion at the home based on Ecclesiastes 12:7, a blessing at the grave and preached a funeral sermon based on Mark 10:13-15. Herman died from diarrhea and cramps at the age of eight months and 26 days. He is survived by his father and mother, two grandfathers and one grandmother. (Grave diggers were Matthew Prellop and John Hohle, Junior.)
