Hermann, the second and only son of August Mortiz Bernstein and Maria Lehmann farmers on Sandy Creek, died at 2 a.m. on Thursday, 3 November 1881 and was buried the next day in St Paul’s Cemetery, Serbin, Texas. Pastor Kilian gave a brief funeral devotion at the home based on Ecclesiastes 12:7, a blessing at the grave and preached a funeral sermon based on Mark 10:13-15. Herman died from diarrhea and cramps at the age of eight months and 26 days. He is survived by his father and mother, two grandfathers and one grandmother.
