Biography

Berrien or Berryen, Cornelis Janse, m. 1st Jannetje dau of Jan Strycker of Flatlands; Signed his name Cornelis Berrien' in 1684. (Note: Bergen listed a 2nd marriage to Hendrickjc Verplanken but it must be an error as it is supposedly Jannetje who re-married!)

Will, Abstract of

Cornelius (abstract reads middle given name as Johnson) Berrien of Newtown will 12 December 1687. Half estate to wife Johannah; residue to my children (not named in the will) equally, except that son John shall have £10 more than the others. Youngest child to be maintained till of age. Overseers: brothers-in-law, Abram of Newtown and Peter Strickland of Flatbush. Witnesses: Jonathan Hazard, Theophilus Phillips, Wouter Verschuer. Signatures acknowledged 29 Jan 1688/89, proved 21 May 1691. Long Island Sources database.[8]
