Biography

Cassius M.C. Berry was born in 1845 in Carthage, Maine, son and youngest child of Thomas Berry Jr. and Caroline White. The 1850 census report dated September 1850 shows him being five years old and attending school.

Cassius M.C. Berry served in the Union Army during the Civil War, enlisting at Weld, Maine as a Private in the 29th REGT, Maine Infantry, ME VOLS, mustered at Portland, Maine on 11 Apr 1865. He was discharged on 10 May 1865 in Massachusetts. His military records describe him as a being a farmer, aged 19 as of his enlistment on 5 Apr 1865, 5'8" tall with a dark complexion, brown hair and hazel eyes.

Cassius appears to have died the same year he was discharged from the INF Civil War duty.

He is buried at the family plot at the Berry Mills Cemetery, Berry Mills, Carthage, Maine. It should be noted that the cemetery records show his name as "Orrin M.C. Berry" while the family stone is clearly engraved as "Cassius M.C.".

Are you sure on the spelling of the first name? The records I see seem to indicate that it should be "Cassius".
