Biography
Mary was born about 179 in Bath County, Virginia. She passed away on 26 October 1868 in Montgomery County, Indiana and is buried in Union Hill Cemetery, Mace, Montgomery County. She was age 77 years, 8 months, 7 days at her death.[1]
William left Virginia for Indiana sometime before 1830. He is on the 1830 Federal Census in Montgomery County, Indiana. William is age 50-59, his wife is age 20-29. Children in the household: two males under 5; 2 males age 5-9; 1 male age 10-14.[2] In 1840 he and family are living in Wayne, Montgomery County, Indiana.[3] William's wife is listed as age 40-49. It does not appear that she is in the correct age brackets in 1830 and 1840. The 1850 census gives her age as 60, born about 1790. She should have been in the 40-49 age bracket in 1830; 50-59 bracket in 1840.
In 1850 William and Polly are living in Walnut, Montgomery County, Indiana with children David B. and Rachel J. Bratton.[4] William and Polly, David and Rachel are still living in Walnut, Montgomery County in 1860.[5]

I have married in this county Jacob Bumgarner to Rebecca Patterson and Wm. Bratton to Polly Berry; the former in April, 1812, the failure in returning that marriage was unavoidable, the latter was December 17, 1812.
