Benjamin Berry's mother (Mary Fairfax Berry) died when Benjamin was young and when he married, his father was enraged, cut him off and would not see him. After living 18 years away from his father in Virginia, he came to Union County. His return to Virginia was occasioned by his father's relenting. It is said, however, that old gentleman (Joseph Berry) gave his son very little besides a blessing and a very likely a negro woman. With these, Benjamin returned to Kentucky and died in Allen County. [2]
The remote ancestor of his son Martin Matthews Berry was one of the early settlers at Jamestown, Virginia.
