Biography

John Berry was born in about 1787-1791.

His daughter Matilda Berry was born in about 1818 in Wigan, Lancashire.[1] Her 1846 marriage record describes John as a painter.

By June 6th 1841, John and Matilda were living in Barracks Yard, Wigan Lane, Wigan. Both were employed as weavers. Also in the household - and listed between them in the ordering, so possibly part of the family - were Ann Bailey (aged 55-59 and a female servant) and Elizabeth Bailey (aged 35-39 and not in paid employment). Both were born in Lancashire. John's birthplace was listed on the census as not known; Matilda's was left blank.

John may have died in 1850 in Wigan district, aged 63. If so, then he was buried on 20 Feb 1850 at St Bartholomew's Church in Westhoughton, Lancashire, and his abode was Hindley. This is the only plausible death registration for him in Wigan district between 1841 and 1851 listed on the GRO website.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
