John Berryman was born in 1825 in Bradworthy, Devon, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Samuel Berryman and Dorothy Lee. [1]
John married Elizabeth Martin on 4th March 1851 in St James' Parish Church, Kilkhampton, Cornwall. [2] The couple migrated to the Colony of Victoria (Australia) about 1853 with their first son, initially settling in Chilwell (now part of Geelong) before relocating to Ballarat in the early 1860s. In their adopted country a daughter and another six sons were born. Their daughter died in infancy.
Aged 54 years and having been widowered for three and a half years, he passed away on 15th January 1880 in Mount Hollowback, about ten kilometres north of Ballarat, Victoria. [3][4] He was survived by his seven sons.
