Augustus Berryman was born in 1842.^[1][2] He was the son of William Berryman and Mary Crouch.^[3]

The below reports of his "murder" were incorrect. The body they found was of another man who was presumed to be Augustus Berryman. Augustus had set out to see his sister in Adelong but fell sick in Wagga Wagga on route - from his death certificate - a Mariner, not married, having been in the colony for 3 years. died from Phthysis (sic)- wasting possibly from consumption but apparently uncertain, he had been ill for 20 months before that.
