21 May 1997: Verbatim obituary added this date to PAF3\JCB: Agness Berthelson MANGUS passed away 14 Aug 1982, in St. George, Utah, at the home of her daughter, Mae POTTER. She was born in Sanford, Colorado, on August 21, 1897. She came to Penrose, Wyoming in October of 1905 with her parents who were early pioneers of the Sanford and Big Horn Basin communities, homesteading land. She attended elementary schools and graduated from the Big Horn Academy in Cowley, Wyo. in June 1918, and was married to Elbert Roy MANGUS of West Virginia that same year. Nine children were born to them and the sixth child, Barbara, passed away in 1929. Agness' husband died in 1954 in Bountiful, Utah, where they had made their home for many years. During the 38 years of residence in the Big Horn Basin, Agness held many social and religious positions and was active in genealogical research. The MANGUS family moved to Bountiful, Utah, in 1943, and Agness continued to work in public affairs, the Democratic Party, Civil Defense, and Ward and Stake offices in the LDS church. She and her family organized the "Western Flower Co.," for artificial flowers and natural foliage arrangements, which is now owned and operated as Hepworth Floral and Gift Shop in Centerville, Utah, by her daughter Jewel and family. Agness studied oil painting and completed 31 paintings. She also designed and made colorful polyester rugs and camper quilts for sale, and made donations to the Utah Boys Ranch at Kearns, Utah, where she had been a popular cook. She became a professional cook at YMCA summer camp at Mirror Lake and Flaming Gorge Mess Hall, in Dutch John, Utah, during the early days of the building of the dam. She also cooked for the LDS Mission Home in No. California for 3 years. She was honored as Grandmother of the year. A most colorful event in her life was being the first lady Grand Marshall for West Bountiful 4th of July parade, and her 80th birthday party at the big white pioneer home with flowering gardens. At Heritage Care Center in Bountiful, where she resided in 1981, the Daughters Of Utah Pioneers honored the Danish ancestors while she was there. In earlier years Agness was also a hostess and tour guide for Greyhound Lines, to the Palmyra Pageant in New York and for Canadian scenic areas and many temple tours. She has lived in St. George, Utah, since March 1982. Survivors are her eight children: Ileene M. THURGOOD, Washington State; Ellen M. FRAMPTON, Bountiful, Utah; Mae M. POTTER, St. George, Utah; Loneta M. MURPHY, Provo, Utah; Wilda M. AUSTIN, Salt Lake City, Utah; LeRoy B. MANGUS, St. George, Utah; Jewel M. HEPWORTH, Centerville, Utah; Wallace B. MANGUS, Bountiful, Utah. Also surviving is one sister, Violet B. MANGUS of Byron, Wyoming, and two brothers, Arnold "Ken" BERTHELSON of Dell, Montana, and H. G. "Si" BERTHELSON of Meeker, Colorado, plus 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Viewing will be at the Russon Mortuary, 7-9 pm, in Bountiful on Aug. 18, and in West Bountiful 2nd Ward Chapel of the LDS Church one hour before services, Aug. 19. Burial will be in Bountiful Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations be made to the Utah Boys Ranch at Kearns, Utah. (This was dictated to her son LeRoy one week before her death, and a few words added here and there by her niece, Jeane B. EAGAN.) Dated 1982;
