Biography

This profile is part of the Beismer Name Study.

Hans Georg was christened on 27 Sep 1705 in Nabern to Daniel Beßmer (1682-1732) and Anna Maria Zimmermann (1681-1751).[1] They immigrated to the United States in 1750 along with their seven children. The source for the immigration to the United States is "U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s" accessed at ancestry.com. His emigration source can be found in "Württemberg, Germany Emigration Index" which is also at ancestry.com.

Marriage 22 Aug 1730 in Nabern. Hans Jörg Bößmer (son of Daniel Bößmer) married Anna Barbara (daughter of the late Hans Caspar Ost from Reudern).[2][3]

Research Notes

There are between 42 and 52 variant spellings for this surname, including for each individual. It is not the same surname as Bessemer, the steel making family. The name is pronounced Bees mer or Bees eh mer and those 2 pronunciations are commonly alternated by individuals in the family. I've also been told by someone at a genealogical conference that there are 2 similar surnames: one with the pronunciation aforementioned, meaning bee keeper; the other pronounced Bays more, meaning broom maker. I have no further source for that explanation of the surname pronunciation and meaning. To date I have the following spellings: Beesmer, Beasmer, Beesimer, Beasimer, Besimer, Bismer, Beismer (my family's spelling), Besemer, Biesemeier, Biesemeyer. As yet, no origins.

By Cole-14574, 25 May 2021: My 6th great grandfather is named Hans Jurgen Besemer who was born 27 Sep 1705 in Nabern, OA. Kirchheim, Wuertemberg, Germany. His wife was Anna Maria Barbara Ost. I will edit this profile as all the information fits my grandfather. The sources are found at ancestry.com but I cannot figure out how to cite them. The New York, Genealogical Records, 1675-1920 (ancestry.com) show Anna Besemer living in Wawarsing, Ulster, New York, United States in 1767. One ancestry tree at ancestry lists the same place as the death for Hans. I have added New York as the death place for Hans.
