Biography

Alexander Lafayette Bess was born on December 2, 1842 in Alleghany County, Virginia, United States, son of Henry Bess (1805–1869) and Eleanor Oyler (1808–1863).

In 1850, Alexander (7) was living in District 1, Alleghany County, Virginia with MT (undefined), and Note: War Between the States, Virginia, Company G (Alleghany Rifles), 59th Infantry (Second Regiment, Infantry, Wise Legion), Private (undefined). [1]

In 1860, Alexander Lafayette (age 17) was living in Alleghany County, Virginia. [2]

In 1880, Alexander Lafayette (age 37) was living in White Sulphur, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. [3]

In 1900, Alexander Lafayette (age 57) was living in Boiling Spring, Alleghany County, Virginia. [4]

In the 1910 census Alexander (age 72, actually 67) was the married head of household in Boiling Spring, Alleghany, Virginia, United States.[5]

Alexander died on November 19, 1922 in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma, United States, aged 79. He was buried in South Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. Birth date on gravestone seems to be incorrect based on census records (DOB is 2 Dec 1836 on stone).[7]
