Marcellus made his living with several office jobs before becoming a plumber and a stationary engineer; father of one son and one daughter with first wife Anna Markle; and a second son with second wife Daisy Mae Brown.

Marcellus Best, Dies in 70th Year.
Former local resident, Marcellus Best, 69, of 48-16 47th street, Woodside, L.I., died unexpectedly yesterday in St. John's hospital, Long Island City. He had been ill since Tuesday and had been receiving treatment in the hospital since Wednesday.
Born in Germantown, Dec. 16, 1877, Mr. Best was the son of the late Reuben and Susan Proper Best. A resident here for some years, he had operated a plumbing business here and formerly operated the Windsor garage. The last three years, Mr. Best had been the chief stationary engineer at the Navarro hotel, New York City. Prior to that time, he had been an engineer at a YMCA in New York and prior to that time, was employed as an engineer at the Newburgh airport.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Daisy Mae Best; a son, Marcellus Best Jr., Stamford, Conn.; and four brothers, Jacob Best, Port Ewen and Arthur, Robert and Smith Best, Beacon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 20 Smith street at 2 o'clock, Saturday. The Rev. George W. Chant, pastor of Hedding Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the East Park cemetery, under the direction of the McCornac Funeral service.
