When Thomas Lee Best was born on April 13, 1874, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, his father, James, was 22 and his mother, Flora, was 18. He married Charlotte Mary Holmes on November 12, 1903, in Dover, Kansas. They had eight children in 14 years. He died on September 23, 1956, in Vancouver, Washington, at the age of 82, and was buried in Dover, Kansas.
