At the time of the 1891 Canada Census, John L., Mary C, Robard A J, and Rodrick O. Bethune were listed as living in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, along with John's brother Dan J Bethune[2].
1901 Census Victoria County, lists him (Doctor) as 51 and wife as 35 [3]

Bethune is buried along with his wife, Mary, in Greenwood Cemetery in Baddeck. [5]

A Collection of Persons Distinguished in Professional and Political Life ; Leaders in the Commerce and Industry of Canada, and Successful Pioneers, Volume 2, George Maclean Rose, Rose Publishing Company, 1888, at pp. 285-286 includes some interesting biographical and genealogical information.
