Thomas was naturalized as a United States citizen September 15, 1894 in Mahoning County (likely Youngstown), Ohio. He was married to Elizabeth Eliza Hedglin. They had at least 6 children: Ellen, Addison, Thomas E, Minnie May, Leroy, and Earl. Thomas worked as a pastor for 20 years. He passed away in 1930 at the age of 69 from what was listed as a perforated gastric ulcer.
