Elizabeth Smith was born on 27 July 1762 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut Colony. Her parents were Nathan Smith and Elizabeth Betts.[1]
Her father was a surgeon who served with DeLancey's Brigade during the American Revolution. The family emigrated to New Brunswick in 1783 among the Loyalists. They settled in Saint-John, New Brunswick.
1819 "Smith, Nathan. City of St. John, St. John County, Surgeon. Will dated 25 May 1817, proved 13 January 1819. Wife Lucy Smith one-third of personal estate and use of all real estate for life for the benefit of her and children begotton by her of me. To my children Elizabeth Demill, wife of Abraham Demill, Rufus Smith, the heirs of Fanny Howard, Polly Sayer and Henry Smith, also William Howe Smith, each 10 shillings, each 10 shillings when called for. After wife's decease, all real estate to son Thomas Smith and daughter Fanny Smith, and the other two-thirds of personal estate to son Thomas Smith. Wife Lucy Smith and James Partelow executors. Witnesses: John Chaloner, Jehiel Partelow, Ewen Cameron." [2]

Elizabeth Tonge BUDD, b. 26 Feb 1807, d. 27 Nov 1891, m. 9 Jul 1828. The 28 Nov 1891 edition of The Daily Sun reported: "The death occurred at Lancaster (St. John) yesterday of Mrs. Demill widow of Nathan S. Demill. Mrs. Demill was a very old lady and has been in poor health for a long time, but her death came quite unexpectedly. She was a daughter of the late Elisha Budd of Digby, N.S. and mother of A.H. Demill of St. John city and of the late Prof. Jas. Demill."

It’s more likely the marriage announcement has the correct father.
