Magnus Edgar Betts was born on July 29, 1892, in Doaktown, New Brunswick, Canada, his father, Samuel, was 35 and his mother, Hester, was 31. He had eight brothers and eight sisters. He died on October 24, 1916, in Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France, at the age of 24. He was the son of Samuel Betts and Hester McKinnon.
