Henry was born about 1880.

There are too many options for the birth of Henry Betts. The only connection we can confirm is his marriage to Edith.

Edith was actually born (and registered) under her Mother's maiden name McMurdy.

Some time before she married Henry Betts, whether it was legal or not, she adopted the name, and was known as Henshall, the surname of her mother's husband.

Edith was about 12 when her mother married Ephraim, so the change, or use of his name, was made when Edith was old enough to understand what was happening.

Actual certificates would tell the true story, but for me personally, I prefer to let it stand as is.
