Biography

John Betty was born in 1842 in Madison County, TN. This date is based on the 1850 U.S. Census where he is listed as " John Betty, age 8." No actual source for birth information has been found.

We know his parents were living in the Madison County, TN area from their marriage and US Census records so one can assume that all their children were born there.

In May 1861, John Betty was a member of the C.S.A. 6th Tennessee Infantry, enlisting with his brothers Joseph and Wesley.

John Betty died of dysentery on June 6, 1861 at age 19 - a Private in the 6th Tennessee. He had served barely a month and saw no action. Burial information is not known. [1]
