Biography
Johannes was born on 15 July 1876 and was baptised on 27 October 1878 in Winburg, Orange Free State.[1]
Johannes married Elsje Maria Smit in Lindley on 14 March 1898.[2]
Johannes and Elsje had eight children:[3]
- Gezina Magdalena (Beukes) Benadé (1899-1961)
- Hester Maria (Beukes) Boshoff (1900-1992)
- Elsie Maria (Beukes) Jacobs (abt.1902-1941)
- Jacobus Cornelis Beukes (1904-)
- Maria Magdalena Catharina Beukes (1907-)
- Lambertus Johannes Beukes (1908-)
- Johannes Stephanus Beukes (1914-1989)
- Carl Johannes Hendrik Beukes (-1918)
Elsje died from measles on 31 December 1917 in Speekhoutboom, Frankfort.[4] She was only 37 years old. This left Johannes a widower with eight children ranging in age from 15 months to 19 years.
Their youngest child, Carl Johannes Hendrik Beukes (-1918), also died a month after his mother from measles and pneumonia.
Johannes died on 2 November 1953 in Rouxland District, Standerton aged 78 years.[5]
