Early rulers of Württemberg

Württemberg, originally just a castle and probably some surrounding land, is recorded from about the late eleventh century, but it's not clear how the early rulers were related, or even if, they were related. However the following family is listed by several sources (see below).

A Konrad (I) von Beutelsbach was probably the same person as the first ruler of Wúrttemberg; Konrad de Wirtinisberg or Counradus de Wirtineberc. He had two siblings, Bruno, the Abbot of Hirsau, and their sister Luitgard who was the mother, by an unnamed man, of Konrad II, who succeeded his uncle in Württemberg.[1]

It is possible that Konrad I and his siblings were descended from Konrad I, Herzog von Kärnten (Duke of Carinthia) of the Salian dynasty[2] but the names of their parents are unknown. The Poppo von Beutelsbach and his wife an unnamed woman, surname von Calw originally entered into Wikitree as their parents, are probably from an older tradition and either fictitious or transplanted into this family from elsewhere. Likewise Richenza von Beutelsbach, entered as another daughter of this couple, doesn't appear in the sources as another sister of Konrad I of Württemberg.

Although the father of Luitgard's son, Konrad II, is unknown, it is possible he was from the family of the Grafen (Counts) von Veringen, based on the similarity of the coats of arms or the Veringen and Württemberg families.[3] She was mentioned in a charter dated to about 1122, but it is not clear whether she was still alive at that time and nothing more is known about her.
