Biography

James was probably born in 1847, the son of Alder and Margaret (Slimon) Beveridge; his birth was registered during the third quarter of that year in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England; his mother’s maiden name recorded as Sleming.[1]

At the time of the 1851 Census, James (3) is living with his parents and brothers John, Joseph and Thomas in Church Walk, Gateshead, County Durham[2]

James married Harriet Marshall in June 1870 in Stockton-on-Tees [3][4]

James and Harriet had the following children:

At the time of the 1871 Census, James (23) a “moulder” and his wife Harriet (20) are residing in St. John, Durham. James records his birthplace as Spittal, (nr. Berwick-upon-Tweed), Northumberland.[5]

At the time of the 1881 Census James (33) an “Ironmoulder” and his wife Harriet (30) are residing in Dale Street, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire (North Riding) together with their children, Margaret (9), Thomas (8), Harriet (4), Ruth (2) and Edith (0) all of whom were born in Middlesbrough.[6]

At the time of the 1891 Census James (43) an “Ironmoulder” and his wife Harriet (39) are residing in Fleetham Street, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire (North Riding) together with their children, Margaret (19), Thomas (18), Harriet (14), Ruth (12), Edith (10), Emma (8), Phyllis (6) and Dora (3).[7]

At the time of the 1901 Census James (53) an “Ironmoulder” and his wife Harriet (50) are residing in Mandale Road, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire (North Riding) together with their children, Ruth (22), Edith (20), Phyllis (16), Dora (13) and grandson Charles Wilfred Ryniell (6).[8]

At the time of the 1911 Census James (63) still working in the Iron Foundry, and his wife Harriet (60) remain in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire (North Riding) together with their children, Emma (28) and Phyllis (26), and grandson Charles Wilfred Ryniell (16)[9]

James passed away during the 4Q of 1917 in Stockton-on-Tees [10]
