Biography

Samuel Beverly was born, c1793, at Otisfield, Maine, the son of Varnum Beverly and Lucy Peabody; [1] died at Whiting, Maine, 18 Dec 1863. [2]

He married (1) at Machias, Maine, Jan 1816, Abigail "Nabby" Huntley, both then of Plantation No. 11 (Cutler). [1] [3] [4] [5] [6] born about 1794 at Whiting, the daughter of Frederick Huntley and Mary Elizabeth Caldwell, [7] who died at Whiting, 15 Aug 1859. [1]

He married (2) at East Machias, 2 May 1860, Mrs. Bridget Elizabeth Sullivan, [6] [9] born in Ireland, about 1820, [10] [11] [12] widow of Jeremiah Sullivan. [1] [10] No more children.

Samuel Beverly, together with his brothers, Varnum Jr. and David, served in the War of 1812, and all three brothers took part in the battle of Plattsburg, NY. David, the youngest, was only 12 years old when he enlisted as a musician and was always called "the drummer boy." During the time that he was a resident of Whiting, Varnum Jr. lived on the south shore of Gardner's Lake, on a point of land opposite what is now [c1975] Lakeview Cabins and the Sherman Andrews residence. His son, Stephen, lived on the Theodore Hill farm. Samuel lived in the Halls Mills area, and David at Baileyville. [1]
