Research Progress

Original Statement by Marie Mills, 27 December 2011

"George Washington was born in 1808. He passed away before 1880."[11]
RESEARCHER's NOTE: The original researcher listed him as George Washington BEVINS, but I have yet to see a record that states his middle name was Washington or that his middle initial was even W. I do not know why Marie MILLS listed him as George Washington BEVINS, but I can make an assumption based on further research of individuals with the same surname in this county. I believe that the confusion, about his middle name, might be because of the individual listed as George Washington BEVINS who was born about 1833, lived in Pike County, Kentucky and married on 28 October 1855 in Pike County, Kentucky to a Nancy WILLIAMSON. George Washington BEVINS had several children and many of their births and death records list their father as George W. BEVINS or George Washington BEVINS and their mother as Nancy WILLIAMSON. To individuals who are not aware of the two different individuals, who had similar names, lived in the same county and married women who were both named Nancy WILLIAMSON, or are just looking at the indexes or something else that doesn't state the ages of the individual involved it may appear that these were one individual. However, when you look at the ages reported in the census records in Pike County, Kentucky for 1870, it is obvious that these were two different individuals. The profiled, George BEVINS, was 62 years old in 1870 but George Washington BEVINS was only 38 years old. A very distinct difference in age. Also, George Washington BEVINS was still listed in the 1880 census record, while the profiled George BEVINS' wife was listed in her son's household as single. With no documentation of a middle initial or a middle name for the profiled, George BEVINS, I decided to remove the middle name of Washington which was originally submitted by Marie Mills on 27 December 2011 when she made this profile. [Statement by Jeanne Howell, 17 July 2017.]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with George:
