Miriam was born in 1851 in Westbourne, Sussex, England.[1] She was the daughter of Hiram Bexell and Harriett Francis.

In the 1871 Census, a Marian Bexell was listed as Cook in the household of Mary Ann Ford, widowed Gentlewoman, at ?Heathfield Lodge, Millbrook, Hampshire, England. [2] On the Census return, her birthplace is listed as Westbourne, Sussex, England.

In 1872 Miriam married James Franks in Portsea, Hampshire, England.[3] She was 21 years old.

The 1891 England and Wales Census shows the couple and six children, aged from 14 to 3 years old, living in Church Street, Portsea, Hampshire, England.[4] She was 39 years old. James's occupation was listed as General Dealer.

In 1894 Miriam's husband James passed away in Portsea Island, Hampshire, England. He was about 50 years old.

In 1896 Miriam married Henry Edwin Dobbs in Portsea, Hampshire, England.[5] She was 45 years old.

The 1901 England and Wales Census shows the couple and two children living in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.[6] She was 49 years old.

The 1911 England and Wales Census shows the couple and three children living in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.[7] She was 59 years old.

Miriam's second husband Henry passed away in 1913 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He was 57 years old.
