Biography

John Dandridge Bibb was born February 11, 1892, in Montgomery, Alabama. He is the son of William Bibb and Martha Shepherd.[1]

His father died when he was eleven and left his family in disgrace because of his alcoholism. John was the only surviving male in his household so he got a paper route and was able to give his mother $12 a week to help take care of the family.[2]

John attended Starkes University School where he was admired for his scholastic work and good character. He never attended college but was quite a scholar nonetheless.[2]

John worked in Montgomery as clerk of the Supreme Court because he knew shorthand. He left Montgomery and moved to Anniston, Alabama, where he worked in the office of Judge Agee, his uncle-in-law. John took an International Correspondence Course and passed the bar exam on his first attempt with the highest grade his year.[2]

John married Phebe Mosgrove Colwell on November 9, 1912[3], at Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston. They met singing in the choir and had three children.[2]

John Bibb died February 25, 1951, in Anniston.[2]
