Obituary

Only a few hours after he was seriously injured in an automobile accident, Eugene Bice, 73, of South Edmeston, died at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at Faxton Hospital, Utica. The accident occurred at 1 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Highway 8 and County Highway 25 at Lamb Corner's near South Edmeston. A car driven by Mr. Bice and moving east on the county highway was in collision with a car moving nort on the state highway. The latter car was driven by Mrs. Lillian Kuhn, 34, of New Berlin. The Bice car was struck on the left side and Mr. Bice was thrown from the car into a ditch. Dr. E.A. Hammond a New Berlin physician was called to the scene. He ordered Mr. Bice removed to his home and later to Utica hospital. Also injured in the mishap were Mrs. Kuhn and her mother, Mrs. Amanda Olsen, 61, of New Berlin and a passenger in her daughters car. Mrs. Olsen suffered severe bruises on the forehead and a slight sprain on the right hand, while Mrs. Kuhn sustained a laceration of the right knee. Dr. Hammond said Mr. Bice's injuries included a skull fracture, a cerebral hemorrhage, multiple contusions and a crushed chest. Both cars were badly damaged. The accident was investigated by Chenango County Undersheriff Frank J. Machio and Deputy John Halpin.

Mrs. Kohn and Mrs. Olsen received treatment for their injuries later.
