Ernest Frederick McIntyre Bickel was born on August 31, 1897 in Racine, Wisconsin to his parents John Bickel and Cora Brown Marcher.
When he began acting, he changed his name to Frederic March (New Year's Day, 1924). He has won the Academy Award twice and the Tony Award twice and is the only actor to ever have done so.
He married Florence Eldridge in 1927. They had two adopted children, Penelope (aka Penny) and Anthony. He passed away on April 14, 1975 in Los Angeles due to prostate cancer. He was buried in New Milford, Connecticut.
