Clifford was born in 1922. He is the son of Thomas Bickell and Ivy Mottram. [1]

Cliff attended Three Springs State School until September, 1929, and then Dominican Convent School in Three Springs. In January, 1935, the family moved to Yandanooka.

During WW2, Clifford served in the Australian Army (October, 1941 to August, 1942.[2]

After his discharge, Cliff returned to Yandanooka and farmed there until at least 1980.
