"MISS BIDDLE DIES
Member of Prominent Family and Well Known Philanthropist
Miss Catherine C, Biddle, a member of one of oldest Philadelphia families, died wednesday night at 11 o'clock at her home, 202 De Lancey place. Fifty years of her life were spent in work as a practical philanthropist and a religious missionary in the sections of the city where her aid was most needed. She was 96 years old and had retired from active work for some time.
Miss Biddle's work as a philanthropist began in 1856 when, with her two sisters, Miss Hannah and Miss Elizabeth Biddle, engaged in missionary work here. The greater part of her attention was centred in Kensington, where she caused three churches to be built with her own money and the large sums she collected.
During the Civil War the three Biddle sisters led the women volunteers who served as nurses in the Philadelphia hospitals. The sisters became known as "The Three Graces"
