Chester Biddle Dies Of Injuries
Chester Bartee Biddle of Route 1, Remington, died in Home hospital, Lafayette, at 1;45 p.m. Saturday about an hour after his pick-up truck was struck by a Penn-Central freight train at the Ohio street crossing in Remington.
The train was traveling slowly to the east and struck the truck on the left side just back of the driver's seat and pushed it a short way to the north and east.
Funeral services were held at the Remington Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Herbett Garner and Rev. David Barnett officiating. Interment was in Remington cemetery.
Mr. Biddle was born in Remington June 29, 1900, and spent all of his life in the community. He was the son of Daniel R. and Janie (Bartee) Biddle. He was graduated from Remington high school and in 1924 from Purdue university. He was married to Miss Edith Cornwell in Crawfordsville on June 12, 1929.
Mr. Biddle was engaged in farming and was a seedsman of many years experience.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel William Biddle, of Remington; a daughter, Mrs. Suzanne Belcher of Rochester; two grandchildren; a brother, Charles Biddle, of Remington; and his step-mother, Mrs. D.W. (Gertrude) Biddle of Remington.
Mr. Biddle was past master of Remington Masonic lodge No. 351, member of Scottish Rite and Shrine, state School Reorganization Commission, Acacia fraternity of Purdue, board of directors of Acacia, Benton County Council and Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association. He was also an elder and clerk of the Session of the Remington Presbyterian church, Sunday school class teacher, director of the State Bank of Remington, president of the Ag. Alumni Seed Improvement Associatian, director and past president of American Soy Bean Association, president of Indiana Soy Bean Growers Association, director and treasurer of Soy Bean Council of America, director of Purdue Ag. Alumni Association and past president of Indiana Crop Improvements Association.
