Biography
Philip was born in 1839, the son of Balthas Bienz and Katharina Weidle.
On 10 Sep 1861 Philip volunteered for service in the Union Army. He was seriously wounded at Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing). After his recovery,he returned to duty and served until the end of the war.
In 1866 Philip married Elizabeth Brown, who bore him five sons and three daughters. Elizabeth died in 1906.
In 1909 Philip married Susan Moser. She also preceded him in death in 1918.
Philip passed away in 1920 at the age of 80. He is buried in Woodland Union Cemetery in Van Wert.
