Biography

George Bierer Sr has German Roots.
George Bierer Sr was a Pennsylvanian.

George Washington Bierer, son of the German immigrants Johann Eberhardt Bierer and Margaretta Katharine Rukenbrod,[citation needed] was born 29 November 1829 in Pennsylvania.[1]

In 1850, George (age 20) and his brother John Bierer (28) were butchers in Union Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, residing with John's new wife Julia (25), possibly in a separate residence on the family farm.[2] They were living next door to their father, Eberhardt (age 55), a farmer on his own land valued at $18,000 (close to $600,000 in 2019),[3] their mother Margaret (52), and siblings Margaret (31), Catharine (25), Everheart [sic] (22, lawyer), Jacob (19), Daniel (16), Rebecca (14) and Eliza Bierer (11).[4]

By 1860 George (age 30) is a farmer with personal property worth $1,000 and boarding with the William Yardly family in Springhill Township, Fayette County.[5]

About 1863,[1] George married Sarah D. Dunham, daughter of Alexander Allen Dunham and Catherine Crow.[6] They had six children:

After their marriage George (age 40, farmer) and Sarah Bierer (38) settled in Springhill Township, Fayette County, where they lived in 1870 with their children Catharine (6), Eberhart (4), Mary E. (2) and George W. (1) togther with Jonathan Gribble (21, farmhand), Ashford Gribble (16, farmhand) and Sarah Moser (15).[19]

By 1880 the household in Springhill Township had grown to include George W. (age 50, farmer), Sarah (47), Kate (16), Evhart (14), Mary (12), George (11), Rebecca (8) and Alexander Bairer [sic] (6) as well as farm laborer and grandson(?) Allen Lackey (16).[20]

Twenty years later (1900) George W. (age 71, farmer) and Sarah Bierer (69, mother of six, five living) continued to reside in Springhill Township with their daughter Kate Bierer (36, dressmaker), granddaughter Sarah M. Woods (5), and a hired man Grove Crow (15).[1]

George died 19 August 1902 in Lake Lynn, Fayette County, and was buried at Mount Moriah Presbyterian Cemetery in Point Marion, Fayette County.[21][22]

  11. 11.0 11.1 Much more research is needed on Everhard due to conflation with one and possibly two others by the same name. Birth may be in October or November 1865 (per two different 1900 census records) or in 1866 (per Billion Graves headstone shared with a Dorcas). His marriage to Eva Daisy is verified by a marriage record that indicates his father. There are two men name Everhart Bierer born in 1865 and 1866 in Uniontown, Fayette County, PA. Both are named after their grandfather. The other is married to Nannie Beckett, son of John and Julia. All other "facts" are speculation at this time.
