Philipp Biermann was born about 1731 in the Friedeburg area of what is now Germany. [1] He married Anna Elisabeth Brungard by 1754 and the couple had at least three children: [1]

  • Sophia Gertruda, born 1755
  • Andreas, born 1761
  • Johann Christoph, born 1763

The family immigrated to Russia in 1766, arriving in St. Petersburg on 29 August 1766 on the ship Apollo. One year later they arrived in the Volga River region and they settled in the Village of Grimm. Unfortunately their two young boys did not survive the journey; only his eldest daughter is noted with the family in the 1767 census.
