Biography

Solomon 5 son of Benjamin 4 (Jonathan 3, Joshua 2, John1) and Love (WOOD) BIGELOW, was born 23 Sep 1741 in Weston, Middlesex county, MA. With his parents and family he moved to New Hampshire in his youth. He bought a pieoe of land in Acworth, NH on 15 Nov 1770, and was chosen Constable of Acworth in 1772. He was in Salisbury, VT for a time, but by 1800 was living in what was then Ontario county, NY, after which we have no record of him. Tradition says that he moved to New York with a son, Zenas; tradition also says that his wife was a Mrs. Wilson. 1790 census: VT-Addison-Salisbury-Solomon Bigelow: l-0-2-0-0.

The only children we have been able to trace are as follows:

Zenas, born late 1760's; died early 1800's Transittown (near Batavia), Genesee co, NY; m 6 Jun 1790 at Salisbury, VT toMary Kelsey, who died at Hartford, NY 1795. (Bigelow Creek near Batavia is named for Zenas.) 2 possible daughters.

Jesse, b ca 1770, possibly NH; d ____ 1801 Lyn twp, Leeds co,Ontario; m ca l795 Thankful Fulford. Jesse emigrated to Ontario as a United Empire Loyalist, and took up land in Leeds county in the early 1790's. 4 children.
