Lieutenant Colonel John Bigelow Jr. served with the United States Army during the Spanish-American War.

He married Mary Braxton Dallam, April 28, 1883. ^[5]

In 1900, he and his wife are living with his parents in Highlands, Orange County, New York. ^[7]
