In Sewall's diary it states that James Bigelow was fined for insulting the Lt. Governor, Stoughton Dudley. It does not mention what the actual violations were, however during this time minor offenses were treated more harshly than they are today. Rigid were the customs and laws of those early days. All of James Bigelow's children were likely born in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay, however only two are on the records there, James and John.[1]
